Relevance. Objectives of this work has been determined by the world-wide water resources quality deterioration and increase of the signifi cance of experts capable not only of designing and building of the industrial/drinking water treatment systems, waste water treatment, and recycling of sludge, but also able to solve non-standard problems that require scientifi c retrieval in order to develop novel techniques and ways of integrated water resources management with taking into account world trends. "Water resources and pollution treatment" is one of the priority directions of cooperation between B.N. Yeltsin Ural Federal University and partner universities of BRIKS countries. Within this direction framework an international master's program "Urban and industrial water supply and water disposal" intended for sustainable development of water sector and water resources rational use and protection is being designed. Th e program is targeted for training of students, both Russian and foreign, in Russian, as well as in English. Methods. We have analyzed current acting regulatory documentation of the Russian Federation in the fi eld of water supply and have given our conclusions on relevant notions and defi nitions. We have observed the "Construction" fi eld and selected the acting professional standards in this sphere. Results. We have determined some principles of the competence-oriented approach in designing of the master's educational program in the fi eld "Construction". We have formulated professional competences of master's graduates with taking into account generalized labor functions of specialists with Master's degree realized in civil and industrial water supply, sewerage and wastewater treatment systems.
