The authors evaluated the utility of the Multidimensional Body‐Self Relations Questionnaire (MBSRQ; Brown, Cash, & Mikulka, 1990) and the Appearance Schemas Inventory–Revised (ASI‐R; Cash, Melnyk, & Hrabosky, 2004) by administering the instruments to Hispanic female college students. Results indicated that the means of the MBSRQ and the ASI‐R differed significantly from previously published norms but evidenced adequate internal consistency reliability. However, further research is needed to examine these constructs within this population.
The Muslim population is growing rapidly throughout the world and a sizable population of 6-8 million Muslims is estimated in North America alone. This population deals with a vast array of issues, including marital adjustment. Nevertheless, the marriage and family literature lacks the research needed to facilitate therapeutic treatment with Muslim couples adequately. Marital adjustment assessments that are commonly utilized have been tested on predominantly Anglo-American or Caucasian couples. The present study is a preliminary investigation of the Locke-Wallace marital adjustment test's (LWMAT) reliability when administered to married, Muslim-American people.
Play therapists often work with children described as oppositional and aggressive. Numerous models of play therapy have been put forth for working with children in this population; however, the current state of empirical literature examining play therapy does not allow for conclusions about which approach is most appropriate in which circumstances. Therefore, play therapy practices should be informed by empirical research in other fields that contribute to an understanding of factors that have been linked to the development and maintenance of behavior problems in children. The authors of the present study examined case examples of play therapy with aggressive or oppositional children given in play therapy literature in order to describe the therapeutic approaches utilized and the extent to which these approaches are consistent with empirical research. Descriptions of play therapy approaches within the case examples were found to be widely varied, both in the case conceptualizations and interventions as well as the extent to which clinical work appeared to be informed by relevant empirical research.
