For their survival, humans have always depended upon natural resources that are scarce and unevenly distributed across the globe. The constantly increasing value of crude oil has provoked individuals, groups, nations, and governments to fight for ownership and control over it, leading to clashes of interests that often culminate in violent conflicts.A model of politics-value-interest-interactions and relationships was developed to analyze the conflicting political environment surrounding oil-dependency in Nigeria. Data were gathered from secondary sources and analyzed using the contextual-descriptive method. The findings demonstrate that conflict triggered by "oil politics" in Nigeria is a result of political class manipulations, marginalization, and lack of true federalism. The study suggests a policy change in line with the tenets of true federalism that will enable individual states to obtain greater control over their resources. This will also ensure sustainable development in the Nigeria oil sector that is currently riddled with contention and strife.
Background/Objectives The negative impacts of Job-related burnout on job performance have been widely documented in the literature. Burnout accounts for both physical and mental health outcomes that increase work turnover in teachers, especially those who teach special needs children, like those with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). The current study assessed the effectiveness of Rational Emotive Occupational Health Coaching (REOHC) in minimizing job burnout amongst autistic children teachers in Anambra state, Nigeria. Method The study used a group-randomized waitlist control trial design. teachers who teach ASD children in private and public special and inclusive schools participated in the study. All participants were randomly allocated to REOHC and waitlist group (WLG). REOHC group were exposed to a single session 120 min REOHC programme every week for 12 weeks. Data were collected using Maslach Burnout Inventory for Educators (MBI-ES), at baseline; post-intervention as well as follow-up evaluations 1 and 2 evaluations. All the data gathered for the study were analysed using mean, Standard Deviation (SD), t-test statistics, repeated measures ANOVA, and charts. Results Results indicated a significant decrease in teachers’ burnout, following REOHC intervention, which was sustained through follow-ups 1 and 2. Conclusion In conclusion, we stated that REOHC is valuable in treating burnout symptoms in teachers of children with ASDs.
The global capitalist system created and sustained by the West has eaten deep into the global economy, serving as the ideological and economic hegemony upon which it revolves. Against this backdrop, this article explores the trends and partners of accumulation in the global political economy of capitalism and interrogates how it benefits the West and oppresses Africa through forced integration and unequal power relations. A key finding of the analysis is that global integration of the world economy that runs on capitalism has not benefited Africa significantly, as claimed by capitalist bourgeoisie scholars.
All that mankind seeks from the dawn of civilisation to this epoch is sustainable development (SD). Due to a lack of SD, Second World War broke out and devastated Europe and retrogressed her to the status of underdevelopment. To recue Europe from the ruins, the U.S. introduced Marshall Plan (MP)—a programme of actions and projects with huge financial aid aimed at reviving and restoring Europe from the aftermaths of the war. Through MP, Europe ‘miraculously’ recovered and developed again within a brief period, and since then, Europe has been sustaining the development till date. The article argued that MP did not restore Europe because of the huge amount committed to it as many scholars claim. Rather, because of the already-built political economy of quality human resource/capital, politico-administrative capabilities and patriotism already in existence. Unlike the third world countries that have received their own versions of MP in foreign aids, programmes, loans, projects, and so on, without commiserate development.
