Utility companies lose large amounts of money every year because of fraud by electricity customers. This paper proposes a system that implements RFID technology to help the electricity supply company deal with its ammeter inventory management and prevent electricity theft. Cost-benefit theory is used to analyse different value changes caused by the system then derive a cost-benefit model. A case study about one electricity board of an electricity supply company and its administrative area is used to calculate the costs and benefits. The value of the ROI shows positive returns from the investment of installing the RFID system.
Enterprises are now operating in the network economy. The network economy is dependent on the information infrastructure via the Internet. Organizations of all types (business, academia, government, etc.) are facing risks resulting from their ever-increasing reliance on the information infrastructure. Because of this, the US government implemented a number of legislations to secure cyberspace. This paper will examine the issue of Information Security Governance (ISG) of an enterprise information system, it will elaborate on the ISG framework, discuss the legislations and finally, assess how ISG can be framed to meet legislations to show due diligence and continuous process monitoring.
In a previous study, a practicum-based approach to bridge the gap between industry expectations and Information Systems (IS) graduates' skills was discussed from the students' point of view. The practicum project was initiated to enable students to experience real work in the IS domain in accordance with their professional aspirations and their desired specialty. To complete the whole picture, in this article, we present the employers' point of view as regards to the benefits the students gained from the project and compare between the two points of view. Semi-structured questionnaire and in-depth interviews with employers who participated in the project in the last four years were conducted in order to reveal their perceptions. Many similarities exist between the employers' and the students' perceptions but also some differences stemming from different perspectives on the process were found. The employers' perspectives were discussed and also the differences between the students'; and the employers'; perceptions.
