Purpose The growing demands of work and life have shifted the concept of work-life balance to work-life integration (WLI). The success of integration depends upon the flexibility to perform the duties. This paper aims to explore the factors that affect WLI and the role of flexible work arrangements (FWAs) in the process of WLI. Design/methodology/approach Systematic literature review was used to explore the concept of WLI and FWAs. A bibliometric analysis was carried out with Bibexcel and VoSviewer. Findings This paper explained the organizational and personal factors that create the demand for WLI. The FWAs, perceived flexibility, technology and self-efficacy have important roles in WLI. The result of WLI can be enrichment or strain, depends upon how effectively the work-life domains are integrated. Originality/value This paper explores the work-life from both personal and organizational views. The findings of this paper will be useful to design the organizational policies and work arrangements that match the requirements of employees and organizations. This paper helps to develop the future research agenda of investigating the relations of WLI to performance, organizational policies and personal factors.
The motivation of the individuals working in higher education institutions has been a topic of great interest for managers and researchers for a long while. This study has been taken to estimate the importance of faculty development program (FDP) as perceived by a faculty member, the role of FDP on faculty motivation and faculty performance, exploring whether faculty motivation mediates the relationship between FDP and employee performance. To achieve the stated aim, data has been collected from 311 faculty members associated with government and private sector institutions of higher education in Uttarakhand State (India). Important factors that motivate faculty to participate in FDP and its influence on faculty motivation and performance were analyzed using factor analysis, regression analysis, and Sobel test to establish the relationship. The findings indicate that FDP has a positive effect on the teaching of faculty, enhances their skills, helps control their emotions, and strengthens their capacity to perform academic and administrative duties. Moreover, FDP enhances work motivation and, in turn, helps faculty in improving their performances. To strengthen faculty motivation, the emphasis must be put on improving faculty recognition and reputation, making work more challenging and exciting, providing better career advancement prospects, and focus more on appropriate salary and compensation benefits for faculty members.
The purpose of this study was to understand the relationship between employee performance appraisal systems, employee motivation, and employee job performance. A cross-sectional survey of 393 employees of an Indian service organization showed that the performance appraisal system has a direct impact on employee job performance, and that this impact is moderated by the employee's motivation. Respondents were asked about 36 appraisal system, performance, and motivation attributes. Implications of the findings for the future research directions and practice are discussed.
Economic development of any country depends on its natural resources, as well as availability of human resource. Every aspect, actions and activities in an organization involve people. Out of various resources, the human resource management has become critical resource for gaining the competitive edge. Today, most of the countries are giving attention and putting their effort to the development and training of their human resources. Training is effort initiated by an organization to foster learning among its workers. Training and development are a continuous effort designed to enhance employee learning, as well as his/her creativity, which is helpful in improving employees’ competence and organizational performance. The present research work examines the moderating and mediating role of organizational climate between employees training and creativity. In a survey of 324 employees working in various SME of Dehradun area, it was found that both employee creativity and employee learning foster organizational climate. Further, the mediation effect of organizational climate on learning and creativity is different. The study shows that creativity is partially mediated, but learning has no significant effect on organizational climate. The study suggests that companies must focus on training their employees so that employees become creative and learn new practices for improving their competencies at work. The study also suggests finding the means of improving organizational climate because of its rich contribution towards improving employee creativity and learning.
