The purpose of this study was to evaluate the changes of oral health knowledge and behaviour among Wuhan citizens after six years of 'Love Teeth Day' campaigns. Representative samples of citizens aged 10-62 years were identified and interviewed in 1987 (n = 1180) and in 1995 (n = 1014). Data on oral health knowledge and practises were collected by structured questionnaires in both surveys and high response rates were obtained (87-94 per cent). In general, improvements in oral health knowledge and toothbrushing behaviour were observed in 1995 as compared with 1987. The younger age group (10-19-year-olds) showed significantly higher improvements of positive answers to knowledge items and toothbrushing behaviour. The findings also indicated that less than half of the interviewees were aware of the anti-caries effect of fluoride and about 30 per cent of the participants brushed their teeth performing the recommended method (vertical). In China, community based oral health education programmes should be implemented to further improve regular self-care practises, especially in relation to the adult population.
This study investigated the association between ambient air quality and sedentary time in Chinese adults. The participants were 3270 Chinese users (2021 men and 1249 women) of wrist-worn activity trackers. The data of participants’ daily activities were collected from July 2015 to October 2015. A novel algorithm based on raw accelerometer data was employed to determine sedentary time. Personal data, including sex, age, weight and height, were self-reported by the participants. Data of air quality, ambient temperature and weather were collected from the data released by the China National Environmental Monitoring Centre and the China Central Meteorological Observatory and matched in accordance with the Global Positioning System and time information. Multilevel regression analyses were conducted to investigate the association between air quality and sedentary time and adjusted for gender, age, region, body mass index, weather, temperature, weekday/weekend and monitored wake time per day. Better air quality index levels and lower concentrations of fine particulate matter were significantly associated with approximately 20 and 45 min reduction in sedentary time, respectively. Poor air quality appears to be an independent factor associated with prolonged sedentary time in Chinese adults.

When the weather condition changed from rainy days to sunny and cloudy days, sedentary time might decrease by about 6.89 and 5.60 min, respectively. In conclusion, weather conditions were independently associated with sedentary time in Chinese adults. e daily sedentary time was shorter on sunny and cloudy days than on rainy days.
