This study was conducted to evaluate the yield, water use efficiency and physiologic characteristics of "Tommy Atkins" mango under partial rootzone drying. The experiment was carried out in an orchard of mango in the irrigated perimeter of Ceraíma, BA. Five treatments and six repetitions were used with one tree per experimental plot: 01-Full Irrigation, 100% of ETc, 02-100% of ETc with frequency of alternance (FA) of 15 days, 03-80% ETc with FA of 15 days, 04-60% of ETc with FA of 15 days, 05-40% ETc with FA of 15 days. The treatments were conductedfrom the beginning of flowering to the harvest of mango in an orchard irrigated by drip. There was no significant reduction in productivity of "Tommy Atkins" mango under PRD up to 40% of ETc and PRD with 40% ETc resulted in greater water use efficiency. There was no significant difference among the averages of photosynthetically active radiation, Qleaf; leaf temperature, Tl; internal CO2 concentration, Ci; transpiration, E; stomatal conductance, gs; photosynthesis, A; carboxylation efficiency, A/Ci; quantum efficiency of photosynthesis, A/Qleaf and instantaneous water use efficiency, A/E between full irrigation and PRD with different water depth. The increase in leaf temperature causes reduction in A/Qleaf and A/E, however, it increases the transpiration. Increased gs results in higher rates of E, A and A/Ci. The use of the PRD with 40% of ETc causes no interference in gas exchange, maintains the yield and increases water use efficiency in "Tommy Atkins" mango tree.
The adaptation capacity of forage cactus (Opuntia ficus-indica Mill) plants to edaphoclimatic conditions and plant responses to changes in management systems contribute to increase the use of this species in agriculture and the exploration of its productive potential in semi-arid regions. The objective of this work was to evaluate the structural characteristics and cladode yield of forage cactus plants grown under different agroecosystems in the semi-arid region of Bahia, Brazil. Structural characteristics of plants and soils attributes were analyzed. The traditional information on the crop management and its correlations with cladode yield were used to identify the best yield indexes, considering the peculiarities of each agroecosystem. Plant height, cladode thickness, and number of cladodes of the forage cactus plants evaluated were less affected by the agroecosystem than by the production systems. Cladode width, length, and area were more affected by the agroecosystems. The forage cactus crop yields, expressed by the annual cladode fresh matter yield, were positively correlated with the plant structural characteristics: plant height and thickness, and cladode width and length. The cladode weight per plant and fresh matter yield per area were the yield components most affected by the management system adopted by traditional producers.

Maximum annual rainfall lasting 5, 10, 15, 20, 30, 60, 360 and 1440 minutes were fitted to Gumbel distribution. Equation parameters were estimated using Gauss Newton method for non-linear regressions. According to Kolmogorov-Smirnov test, all equations were fitted to Gumbel distribution. From fitted distributions, maximum annual rainfall intensity was calculated for 2, 10, 20, 50 and 100years return periods, which were used to define the equation for intense rainfall events. Fitting parameters of the equations varied across rain gage stations, especially for the parameter K, suggesting the need for determining these equations for each site, thereby providing information when designing agricultural and hydraulic projects. As precipitações máximas anuais com duração de 5, 10, 15, 20, 30, 60, 360 e 1440 minutos foram ajustadas à distribuição de Gumbel. Os parâmetros da equação foram estimados pelo método de regressão não linear de Gauss Newton. De acordo com o teste Kolmogorov-Smirnov houve ajuste de todas as equações à distribuição de Gumbel. Através das distribuições ajustadas, calcularam-se os valores de intensidade máxima anual de precipitação para períodos de retorno de 2, 10, 20, 50 e 100 anos, que serviram de base para definir a equação de chuvas intensas. Os valores dos parâmetros ajustados das equações variaram entre as estações, notadamente o parâmetro K, evidenciando a necessidade da determinação dessas equações para cada localidade para dimensionamento de projetos agrícolas e de obras hidráulicas.
