A mathematical analysis is presented to establish the convergence of the matrix transformation (or matrix transfer) method for the finite difference approximation of space-fractional diffusion problems. Combined this with an implicitEuler time discretization the optimal order convergence is proved with respect to the discrete L 2 and the maximum norm. The analysis is performed on general two and three-dimensional domains with homogeneous boundary conditions. The corresponding error estimates are illustrated with some numerical experiments.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
