Background-We have shown that glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1 [7-36] amide), stimulates myocardial glucose uptake in dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) independent of an insulinotropic effect. The cellular mechanisms of GLP-1 induced myocardial glucose uptake are unknown.
The importance of understanding the link between glucose uptake and cardioprotection is underscored by recent clinical trials that have failed to demonstrate a benefit between tight glycemic control and reduced cardiovascular events. These data underscore the need for additional agents that affect both outcomes.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
