Taking into account that each new day an amount of daily processed data grows exponentially, it is obvious that knowledge society needs flexible, effective and high performing tools to retrieve, learn and apply necessary information. Learning management systems become more and more intelligent and adaptive. Learning analytics instruments give course developers a possibility to assess and analyze learners’ activities and behavior patterns within e-learning environment, allowing to propose them personalized self-paced learning path and types of learning objects. This paper discusses challenges in development of adaptive learning management system and outlines its prospective models and properties.
<p>We are developing an innovative cross-media learning delivery system (eBig3, ETM) that goes beyond traditional web-based learning approaches. The approach combines wide availability of television and mobile technologies with the capacity and flexibility of Internet based e-learning. This approach allows the learner to use either a single learning delivery system (depending on availability and preferences) or a complementary combination of two or three delivery systems, thus supporting the anywhere, anytime — by any preference—learning paradigm. The development of the eBig3/ETM learning solutions includes integration of technical aspects of cross-media learning content delivery. Moreover, the approach incorporates pedagogical and usability principles based on an understanding of the target users learning needs and their contexts.</p>
Technology enhanced learning becomes the commonness in the nowadays educational process. Modern information systems open new departure in teaching and learning methods, enhance learners' critical thinking, reflection and competence development, broaden the ways in which the students are engaged in class activities, and as a result, lead up to the changes in existing educational paradigms. Latter findings acquired from the piloting of the experimental information system, based on multiscreen, so-called eBig3, approach, showed positive results in learners involvement into knowledge acquisition process by using of e-, t- and m- technology. This course demonstrated also another system's feature which has let its users had substantial benefit - the diminished dropout rate. It has spurred researchers on further development of the user-friendly adaptive system equipped with appropriate feedback generating tools. This paper observes possible solutions to improve the system's messaging tool and make it more intelligent. Conceptual design and algorithmic model of the proposed adaptive integrated technological system with the integrated feedback tool is introduced. The idea reposes on the observations that system user behaviours appeared in patterns and that these patterns reappeared with a number of learners; accordingly, they might be separated into a number of data sets and, based on that, several user groups depending on their behaviour patterns could be formed. Proposed system will have to generate appropriate messages from the message repository to corresponding user. This messaging system will be able to send both SMSs and emails to learners and course tutors. It will also support collaborative activities within e-learning environment.
<p class="R-AbstractKeywords"><span lang="EN-GB">In Latvia so far there have not been made comprehensive studies to provide balance function diagnostics for people with disabilities, which would have to continue with further creation of appropriate system. However, Latvian researchers developed methods and technology for the rehabilitation and health improvement. At the same time it is also recognized that there is a lack of dedicated efficient and widely accessible for patients systems, equipment and tools to make balance function and dysfunction diagnostics, as well an improvement of the patients’ movement capabilities. This position paper gives a brief overview about the latest technical engineering solution trends and developments in the world, which could be suited and developed to create the conformable new, rather simple, accessible and cheap system. Such system will have to ensure the diagnostics of balance functions of the persons with disabilities and encourage them to use mentioned equipment for testing and training of their balance and movement functionality.</span></p>
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
