Open and distance learning in higher education provides an opportunity to individuals who cannot attend university full time on campus. Urban area residents especially have an advantage by accessing such higher education. There are almost three million people who receive university education in this way, and almost 1,5 million students in the Open and Distance Learning System at Anadolu University. On campus university graduates can also register for any department as a second university to receive university education in the Open and Distance Learning System. Therefore, the number of students and graduates increase every year. The purpose of this study is to analyze the role of the Open and Distance Learning System at Anadolu University, which has helped Turkish higher education by means of increasing economic and social welfare. To achieve the goal, 9131 graduates were surveyed. The results indicate that the Open and Distance Learning System in question has been effective with regard to their employment status (before and after education), income levels and their social-economic welfare positions.
Individuals or criminal organizations carry out various criminal activities in all countries of the world with illegal methods to gain unfair economic benefits. With theft, bribery, and fraud being in the lead, many types of economic crimes disrupt the economic and social order of the society, damage mutual trust between individuals, and feed the informal economy. This study aims to determine the relationship between economic crimes and socioeconomic factors. Within the scope of the study, panel data of 26 sub-regions in the Statistical Regional Units Classification-II (İİBS-II) of Turkey for the period of 2008-2019 were analyzed with dynamic panel data methods and the socioeconomic determinants of 10 different crimes representing economic crimes in the literature were put forward. Based on the results of the study, it is observed that the gross national product per capita, unemployment, educational status, population density, and net migration, which are among the socioeconomic factors included in the analysis, have statistically significant effects on the economic crime rates.
Küreselleşen dünyada toplumun sosyal refah seviyesinin yüksekliği bireylerinin mutlu olmasına bağlı olduğuna göre eğitimin bu anlamdaki rolü çok önemlidir. Çalışmada, güçlendirme kavramı ve boyutları ile kadın güçlendirmesi kavramı teorik ve ampirik olarak incelenmiştir. Literatürde kadın güçlendirmesi ile eğitim arasındaki ilişkiyi sorgulayan araştırmalar irdelenerek, açık ve uzaktan eğitim sisteminde öncü olan Anadolu Üniversitesi Açıköğretim Sistemi'nden (AÖS) bahsedilmiştir. Daha sonra AÖS'ten eğitim alanların güçlendirme ve kadın güçlendirmesindeki rolü nitel analizle incelenmiştir. Çalışmada Anadolu Üniversitesi AÖS'nin kadınların güçlendirilmesi konusunda özellikle hane içi kararlara katılma, ekonomik güven, hane içi kararlarda bağımsız ve özgür olma ve bireysel hareketlilik konusunda etkili olduğu ortaya konulmuştur. Açıköğretim sisteminin kadınlarda sosyal ve ekonomik güçlendirmeyi desteklemekte oluşu çalışmada ulaşılan en önemli sonuçtur.
There is an increasing interest in predicting the contribution level of open and distance learning to students' career, in order to perceive the pathway for higher quality standards. For this purpose, Anadolu University Faculty of Open Education, which can be considered a leader in its field, to learners' professions and their career goals, organized a research project in which a questionnaire was conducted involving approximately 17,000 associate and undergraduate students to build a database of responses. The data was used to determine the contribution level of the open education programs. The five ordered-level contributions were recorded to a response variable. Demographical, educational and economic variables were successfully used in mapping the categorical responses using the ordinal logistic regression analysis method (OLR). The results, unlike other studies, indicate that there is a positive relationship between family size and the contribution level of distance education on students' preparation for the professions. In a novel way, the socioeconomic level of the students is considered in the OLR model as an economic factor. As a consequence, the students with moderate and higher socioeconomic levels demonstrated superior levels of contribution.
