We report on the design and characterization of methylmethacrylate copolymers with nonlinear optical 4-alkoxy-4′-alkylsulfone stilbene sidechains, which are transparent down to 410 nm. A fairly stable, polar orientation has been obtained by means of electric field poling, resulting in a reasonably high nonlinearity (d33≤9 pm/V).
We report the design, manufacture, and characterization of poled polymer multilayer waveguides for frequency doubling. Phase matching is obtained by using modal dispersion between the zeroth-order fundamental lightwave and the first-order second-harmonic wave. By incorporating a very thin high refractive index satellite layer, the phase-match condition can be fulfilled with concomitant large overlap between the two waves, resulting in efficient doubling.
The non-critical phase-matching wavelength of KLN can be tuned from 790 to over 920 nm by adjusting the lithium content of the crystals. This variation covers the operational range of (A1,Ga)As-lasers. The use of KLN in a monolithic-ring-resonator frequencydoubling setup will provide a stable, highly efficient blue laser capable of high-density optical recording.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
