We report the direct observation of magnetic-field-dependent energy levels in an anisotropic twodimensional electron gas. The experiment was carried out by far-infrared-reflectivity measurements on a well studied member of the Bechgaard salts, (TMTSF)2C104, at low temperatures. We find two distinct bands above a threshold field and a number of unusual features which we interpret in terms of the underlying quantized field-induced spin-density-wave subphases. We also observe in the optical data details associated with anomalies in this material in high magnetic fields.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
