In the E.D.M. process one can correlate on the basis of a heat conduction model the material surface temperature with adimensional parameters. A mathematical formulation is proposed. For a given heat input and a maximum surface temperature it is demonstrated that crater depth and radii of the heat source are correlated by an universal function. Experimental data give, for many materials, a surface temperature of the same magnitude as the boiling point.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
