The structure of the ring form $309 of sulphuric anhydride has been known since 1941. On the basis of new three-dimensional X-ray data, least-squares refinement was carried out and gave more precise values of the S-O distances in the ring. It appears that the length of the S-O(S) bond is 1-61 + 0.02 A, and that of the S-O bond is 1.40 + 0-02 A, or shorter.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
