We demonstrate a compact, efficient Nd:YVO(4) stable-unstable hybrid slab oscillator that was partially end pumped at 880 nm. A maximum output power of 165 W at 1064 nm was obtained with an optical-to-optical efficiency from absorbed pump power to laser output of up to 60% and a slope efficiency of up to 66%. The beam propagation factors M(2) were 1.7 in the stable direction and 1.4 in the unstable direction without sidelobes.
We report the first charge-state measurements of fast heavy ions passing through a plasma target. The projectiles were ^Ar ions at an energy of 4.8 MeV/amu and '^^Xe ions at an energy of 5.9 MeV/amu. The target was a 20-cm-long Z pinch discharge which provided fully ionized hydrogen plasma with free electron densities up to 1.5 x 10^^ cm ~^. The measured charge-state distributions are in excellent agreement with theoretical calculations. For Xe ions an increase of the ion charge state in plasma over the charge state in cold gas was observed.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
