Resumo A AIDS é uma doença causada pelo vírus HIV e corresponde ao estágio mais avançado da infecção que ataca o sistema imunológico. É considerada uma pandemia. Não possui um perfil epidemiológico único. Devido à inexistência de uma política pública estruturada pelo Estado visando seu combate surgiram um grande número de ONGs voltadas para a doença no país. A política de enfrentamento ganhou força ao atingir diversos grupos sociais, quando a sociedade civil se mobilizou e garantiu sua priorização, a pressão política e financiamento estável, inclusive o incentivo internacional. Atualmente o Brasil apresenta uma das mais modernas políticas de enfrentamento à AIDS; é referência internacional.Abstract AIDS is a disease caused by HIV and corresponds to the most advanced stage of infection that attacks the immune system. It is considered a pandemic. Do not have a single epidemiological profile. Due to the lack of a structured public policy by the state seeking their struggle emerged a large number of NGOs focused on the disease in the country.
