Objective: The current study aimed to determine the onset of sesamoid bones (Sbs) ossification at the thumb metacarpophalangeal (MCP) joint of the hand and its relationship with puberty. Methods: This retrospective radiographic study included patients aged 5-17 years. The presence of Sbs was investigated separately for each age group. Patients were classified based on their age, gender, and the presence of radial and ulnar sesamoids. Results: A total of 1,020 radiographs from 939 patients were analyzed. Sbs began to ossify in girls at the age of 8 years and in boys at the age of 9 years. The ulnar-radial sesamoids were present in all individuals in the same age group at the age of 13-14 years in girls and 15 years in boys. The age at which 50% of the individuals in the same age group had a sesamoid was 10.4 years in girls and 11.9 years in boys on the radial side, 9.5 years in girls, and 11.5 years in boys on the ulnar side. Conclusions: In all individuals, the time between the onset of sesamoids of the MCP joint and development corresponds to the physiological period of puberty. However, the age at which puberty begins coincides with the time when Sbs begin to ossify in 50% of both sexes in the same age group.

Purpose: The aim of this stud was to compare the clinical and radiological results between Sinus-tarsi (ST) and Extended-Lateral (EL) approaches in open reduction internal fixation of intra-articular calcaneal fractures. Materials and Methods: 51 calcaneal fractures of 48 patients surgically treated between 2012 and 2017 were retrospectively analyzed. The patients were divided into two groups. Preoperative CT, early postoperative and postoperative 1st-year radiographs, and The American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS) Ankle-Hindfoot Score scores were evaluated. Results: According to the Sanders classification, nine patients in the EL group were type 2(36%), 16 patients type 3 (64%), 8 patients in ST group type 234.8%), 13 patients (56.5%) type 3, 2 patients (8.7%) type 4. The mean AOFAS-Hindfoot score was 85(63-100) in the ST group and 83(52-93) in the LE group at one year. Mean preoperative waiting time was shorter, with an average of 2(1-4) days in ST and 6(3-12) days in LE. Conclusion: ST approach shortens the preoperative waiting time in intra-articular calcaneal fracture surgery, provides a sufficient vision for anatomical restoration, and effectively avoids complications.

Sosyal bir canlı olan insan çevresiyle ilişki kurmaya ve olumlu yaşantılar geçirmeye ihtiyaç duymaktadır. Çeşitli nedenlerden ötürü bu ihtiyaçları karşılanamayan kişiler birçok sorunla karşı karşıya kalmaktadır. Toplumda gerek fiziksel gerek psikolojik açıdan ihtiyaçlarını karşılama noktasında toplumsal desteğe en çok gereksinim duyan grubun ortopedik engelli bireyler olduğu düşünülmektedir. Bu çalışmada ortopedik engelli bireylerin iyi oluş düzeyleri ile sosyal dışlanma düzeyleri arasındaki ilişkinin incelenmesi amaçlanmaktadır. Araştırma korelasyonel modele göre tasarlanmıştır. Araştırmada ortopedik engelli bireylerin sosyal dışlanma düzeylerinin iyi oluşlarını yordama düzeylerini belirlemek amacıyla doğrusal çoklu regresyon analizi uygulanmıştır. Çalışmadan elde edilen sonuçlara göre sosyal dışlanma ile iyi oluş arasında ilişki bulunmaktadır ve sosyal dışlanma iyi oluşun %28’ini açıklamaktadır.
