In this paper, a novel slim tilt-controllable actuator having a printed circuit board as its lens holder for optical pick-up heads is designed. The magnetic circuit of the actuator includes two orthogonal directions of magnetic flux, which belongs to the same closed loop. The Taguchi method is applied to optimize the magnetic circuit of this newly designed slim actuator.
PACS 85.70.AyIn an optical pick-up head, the objective lens actuator is a key component used to move the objective lens to the exact position for focusing the laser spot on the disc recording layer and keeping the laser spot following certain track on the disc. In order to be used in a compact pick-up head for high density drives, the objective lens actuator must be compact and controllable in focusing, tracking, and radial tilt directions. In this paper, an electromagnetic three-axis-controllable actuator with a novel structure was designed and verified. Magnetic circuit analysis and structural modal analysis were also done in this work. Results of the frequency response tests done with the prototypes corresponded with the simulation results, and the reading tests done by using a pick-up head with the actuator designed in this work proved the feasibility of this design.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
