The 1064 nm pulsed laser was used to ablate polyethylene (PE) at different power. Compared with unmodified PE, the ablated polyethylene (PE) gave off obvious blue light under UV lamp irradiation. The morphology and tre structure of ablated and unmodified PE were studied by scanning electron microscope, fluorescence spectroscopy and raman spectroscopy.the results showed that double bonds existed in the ablated PE which resulted in obvious blue emission of ablated PE and the intensity of the laser had great influence on the physical properties and chemical structure of the PE surface.Researches on laser ablating polymer started in early 1980s and ablated polymers can be widely used in many ways [1][2][3] . For example, more ideal biochips were gotten by using pulsed laser to manufacture polymer materials [4] . Using the pulsed laser ablation method, the production of microgear, raster graphics and some diffractive optical elements with high diffraction efficiency on polycarbonate, polyimide and other polymer materials was realized [5][6] . The surface of some polymers (such as polyethlene terephthalate, poly(ether sulfone), polyimide and so on) was modified by the irradiation of pulsed laser for the hydrophilicity improvement of the surface [7][8][9] .So far pulsed laser ablation has been widely applied to the surface modification of polymers, but less work has been done for fluorescence performance of polymers ablated by pulsed laser. The surface of polytetrafluoroethylene ( PTFE) was modified by the irradiation of a focused pulsed laser with 248 nm wavelength and different energy densities in order to improve the adhesion of the surface and fluorescence emission of ablated PTFE was observed [10] . The modified fluorescent materials can be applied to many fields where the fluorescence is needed, such as the public sign, clothing ornament, identification mark, vacuum fluorescent display and other fields. In this paper, the 1064 nm pulsed laser was used to ablate PE, which is a kind of non-fluorescence polymer. The fluorescence performance and structure changes of ablated PE were studied which aimed to study a kind of new fluorescence material. In order to prepare ablated, PE, first, PE membrance was cleaned by acetone and distilled water respectively and dried at 80 . Second, DP-R50 diode side-pumped solid-state laser (Nd:YAG, 1064 nm) was used to ablate the surface of cleaned PE membrance with different power lasers at room temperature and in air.SEM images of unmodified PE and ablated PE by different power laser were shown in Fig.1.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
