Purpose
The purpose of this study is to build a database of digital Chinese painting images and use the proposed technique to extract image and texture information, and search images similar to the query image based on colour histogram and texture features in the database. Thus, retrieving images by this image technique is expected to make the retrieval of Chinese painting images more precise and convenient for users.
Design/methodology/approach
In this study, a technique is proposed that considers spatial information of colours in addition to texture feature in image retrieval. This technique can be applied to retrieval of Chinese painting images. A database of 1,200 digital Chinese painting images in three categories was built, including landscape, flower and figure. The authors develop an image-retrieval technique that considers colour distribution, spatial information of colours and texture.
Findings
In this study, a database of 1,200 digital Chinese painting images in three categories was built, including landscape, flower and figure. An image-retrieval technique was developed that considers colour distribution, spatial information of colours and texture. Through adjustment of feature values, this technique is able to process both landscape and portrait images. This technique also addresses liubai (i.e. blank) and text problems in the images. The experimental results confirm high precision rate of the proposed retrieval technique.
Originality/value
In this paper, a novel Chinese painting image-retrieval technique is proposed. Existing image-retrieval techniques and the features of Chinese painting are used to retrieve Chinese painting images. The proposed technique can exclude less important image information in Chinese painting images for instance liubai and calligraphy while calculating the feature values in them. The experimental results confirm that the proposed technique delivers a retrieval precision rate as high as 92 per cent and does not require a considerable computing power for feature extraction. This technique can be applied to Web page image retrieval or to other mobile applications.
To help elucidate the oxychlorination redispersion reaction mechanism, the surface species formed on the surface of -Al2O3 was characterized by X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS). The efficacy of redispersion was assessed by the Pt–Pt coordination number (CNPt–Pt) of redispersed, and then reduced samples. A nearly fully redispersed complex (Ptrd52) was prepared by treating a sintered model Pt/-Al2O3 catalyst at 520 °C, Air/EDC (ethylene dichloride) of 30, and WHSV (Weight Hourly Space Velocity) of 0.07 h−1 for 16 h. For investigating temperature effects, samples treated at 460 (Ptrd46) and 560 C (Ptrd56) were also prepared for comparison. It was found that, while an octahedral resembling Pt(Os)3–4(O–Cl)2–3 (Os represents support oxygen or hydroxyl oxygen) complex was formed on -Al2O3 of Ptrd52, less O–Cl ligands were formed on the redispersed complexes, Ptrd46 and Ptrd56. A negative correlation of CNPt–Pt with CNPt–Cl* (Cl* represents the Cl atom in O–Cl ligand) for these three samples further suggested that the formation of Pt–O–Cl played a key role in the redispersion process. Pt–O–Cl could be formed in the reaction of reactive Cl and PtO2. At an operation temperature of lower-than-optimal temperatures of 520 C, less Cl2 dissociation and less O–Cl ligands were formed. On the other hand, higher temperatures may facilitate Cl2 dissociation, but reduce the equilibrium conversion of HCl to Cl2, leading to increased HCl reaction with Pt (PtO2) clusters to form Pt–Cl (Cl is the atom bonded directly to Pt), and decreased formation of Pt–O–Cl.
The severe sediment disaster has already been observed locally and worldwide, and the serious disaster scale must frequently happen in the future due to climate change. Hence, developing a proper reservoir desilitation strategy is an urgent issue to ensure that the water resources can be sustainable development worldwide. This study aims to investigate the release efficiency of the bypass tunnel in the reservoir. Firstly, a 2D numerical model was adapted to reproduce the most severe sedimentation disaster due to Typhoon Aere and obtain a reliable result compared with the measured data. Then, the concept of climate change was embedded to understand the release capability of the bypass tunnel under slight to worst scenarios. Finally, the bypass tunnel is demonstrated to be effective in releasing sediment during typhoon periods and prolong the reservoir lifespan. In conclusion, this study proposes a proper solution to reservoir sedimentation during extreme flooding event. The optimization of water resources and economic benefits can help reservoir management achieve the goal of sustainable development. The presented research can be promoted in the worldwide reservoir to face the possibly severe sediment disaster under the threat of climate change.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
