Many studies encourage tourist destinations to consider dispersal and mobility as key strategic components of tourism planning and development. Essential aspects such as the visited destinations and the arrival as well as exit directions become a basis for formulating a tourism planning policy. However, research in examining this paradigm by using a spatial analysis is limited. Therefore, this paper introduces an analysis by using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to create a visualization of tourist dispersal and mobility. This methodology was implemented in the Great Ocean Road Region, an iconic regional destination in Australia that is experiencing limited tourist dispersal. Results from 351 questionnaires were processed by GIS with a web-based application. The data were processed by using certain tools, including ArcGIS ESRI to create spatial data as well as PHP and JavaScript programming languages to visualize the results. The results show that there is a low geographical dispersal in the region because the hinterland area remains untapped while the coastal area receives abundant of tourists. It is aggravated by limited tourist mobility due to the same directions of tourists’ arrival and exit. With GIS technology, the visualization of this spatial analysis shows a possible tourism pressure that is worth noted by policymakers in the planning and development process.
Inventory of GIS Web Applications for Environmental Roads, Drainage, and Septic Tanks is an information system built to support spatial requirements, where these applications are built to address the problem of investing in environmental roads, drainage, and septic tanks according to maps. In developing a web-based GIS application, it usually uses the software development methodology but in this study, the application implementation uses the Y-Model Webgis Development (YWDM) which is a combination of web engineering and the context of developing web-based app with a study case on inventorying spatial requirements on roads, drainage, and septic tanks. This methodology was implemented as a map visualization for city planning and development and is needed applications that are capable and appropriate. By using the YWDM methodology, the needs and accuracy of application development can be done well, using several tools. The data process uses tools, including ArcGIS ESRI, to create spatial data and PHP and JavaScript programming languages to visualize the results. The results show that application development is built more easily because requirements can be well defined because a collection of requirements from the context of software development and spatial specifications are met and the application is completed. When creating a GIS web application, some methodologies can be used besides waterfalls or ordinary SDLCs, because spatial requirements are not well defined. With the implementation of this methodology, it is proven that the development of GIS web applications can be easier and by the needs desired by the user.
Web-GIS in the tourism sector can be done using website technology, namely by visualization based on tourism spatial attributes that display polygon-based patterns and points of tourist attraction locations to combat overtourism in tourist attractions. With the development of geospatial technology, tourists' distribution and travel patterns can be visualized by collecting data on tourist visits to tourist attractions and their routes. With the YWDM method, this web-gis was developed using the YWDM methodology with several phases according to the methods used. This application uses an open-source programming language, namely Javascript, and uses JSON as an upstream geodatabase. The results show that Web-GIS visualization of the distribution and travel patterns can make it easier to monitor the density of a tourist attraction. It is well developed in providing more accurate information on the distribution and density of tourist attractions. With the YWDM methodology, visualization can be done like the software development stage and equipped with steps in need for spatial data management.
