The degree of smoking habits in the urban community is still high, although carried out health promotion of harmful substances in cigarettes, one of which is cadmium (Cd). The dangers of cadmium in cigarette smoke causes harm to active and passive smokers. Increased exposure of cigarettes will lead to an increase in the burden of disease in groups at risk such as people with Diabetic Type 2 (DMT2). The purpose of this study was to determine the differences in levels of cadmium (Cd) in the blood of active smokers and passive smokers patients with DMT2 in Puskesmas Kedungdoro Surabaya. The type of this research is a comparative with cross-sectional study design conducted in the Toxicology Laboratory of the Department of Health Analyst and Research and Standardization Center of Industry in August 2020-May 2021. The independent variable in this study is active smokers and passive smokers patients with DMT2, and the dependent variable in this research is the content of cadmium (Cd) in the blood. Analysis of the levels of cadmium in the blood using Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer by the method of acidifying carbon furnaces. The results showed range levels of cadmium in blood in 8 people suffer from Type 2 Diabetic as active smokers are 0.605-1.5535 µg/dL. While the range levels of cadmium in the blood of the 8 people who suffer from Type 2 Diabetic as passive smoking are 0.5648-2.7045 µg/dL. Based on the results of statistical tests using test Independent Sample T-Test, it can be concluded that there is no difference in the levels of cadmium (Cd) in active smokers and passive smokers patients with DMT2 in Puskesmas Kedungdoro Surabaya.
Hardness is the ability of water to form foam when it is mixed with soap. If calcareous water enters the body in excessive amounts in long periods of time can lead to kidney stones disease thus the hardness level in the water must be decreased and one of the methods is the implementation of Siwalan Borassus Flabellifer water, containing lactic acid and alcohol which is capable of dissolving minerals Calcium (Ca2+) in water. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the addition of Siwalan Borassus Flabellifer water againts total hardness levels in well water. The analysis is conducted quantitatively and it was experimental study with complexometric titration method to 5 well water samples taken in the Tuban area by grab sampling technique. From the analyzed samples obtained the average value of total hardness control (without the addition of Siwalan Borassus Flabellifer water) 2626.26 mg/L CaCO3, with the addition of 10 mL Siwalan Borassus Flabellifer water of 2346.54 mg/L CaCO3, the addition of 20 mL of Siwalan Borassus Flabellifer water of 2284.38 mg/L CaCO3, and the addition of 30 mL of Siwalan Borassus Flabellifer water of 2206.68 mg/L CaCO3. The analysis results with statistical test One Way Anova can be concluded that there was no significant effect on the total hardness level of well water with the addition of Siwalan Borassus Flabellifer water.
Secara umum keadaan warga panti asuhan dalam keadaan baik Social problems that often occur in society are abandoned children, street children, beggars, disabled people, neglected elderly, poor families, families with social problems, and so on. Children and poor people should have their human rights fulfilled by the State of Indonesia. However, in reality there are many children whose needs are not met, such as parents who are unable to provide for the child's needs or the child does not have parents. One effort to overcome this is to establish social institutions in the form of orphanages. Since the pandemic, children at the Mission Nusantara Surakarta Orphanage rarely receive health services and there is limited space for children to move. The purpose of this community service is to assist the orphanage in monitoring the growth and development of residents and managers of the Mission Nusantara Orphanage in Surakarta. The implementation method is in the form of examinations on child growth and development, Counseling on Clean and Healthy Living, checking on the Nutritional Status of Children, counseling on how to brush their teeth properly, health checks for orphanage managers and training on disaster management. 6%) of the residents of the orphanage are male, almost half of them are aged 21-60 years, most (68.4%) have blood pressure < 140/90 mmHg, most (73.1%) have normal nutritional status, almost all (94.4%) blood glucose < 126 m/dL and uric acid > 8 mg/dl. Similar activities are needed to see general body health and must be monitored periodically, so that the residents of the orphanage can find out their health status, especially now that they are still in a pandemic condition Covid-19
Background Smoking has become one of the leading causes of death worldwide. The negative impact of smoking usually occurs after a few years when a person starts actively smoking can harm the body's organs and become a major risk factor for diseases with inflammatory components. Systemic inflammatory reactions are characterized by an increase in inflammatory cytokines, blood cell counts and blood viscosity. Examination CRP and ESR are the two most frequently measured laboratory tests in assessing the response of a systemic inflammatory process. This study aims to determine and analyze the correlation between ESR values and hs-CRP in active smokers at coffee shops, East Surabaya. Methods: The type of research used is correlation research with cross sectional. The sample used is 30 active smokers who meet the inclusion criteria. This research was carried out on February 21 – April 11, 2022. The examination of ESR values and hs-CRP levels was carried out at Balai Besar Laboratorium Kesehatan (BBLK) Surabaya. Results: It was found that 30 respondents had been actively smoking >5 years with a percentage of 100%. as many as 8 respondents consumed 1-10 cigarettes/day with a percentage of 27%, 19 respondents consumed 10-20 cigarettes per/with a percentage of 63%, and 3 respondents consumed >20 cigarettes/day with a percentage of 10%. The average value of ESR is 8.37 mm/Hr and The The average value of the of hs-CRP 1.11 mg/L. Conclusion: Based on statistical tests, There is no correlation between the value of ESR and hs-CRP in active smokers in a coffee shop in the East Surabaya area (p value = 0.099) with a sufficient relationship and a positive direction of relationship (r = 0.307).
High exposure of cigarettes in Indonesia causes various disturbances in the body's metabolism, especially in the kidney, which is due to the cadmium metal content. Cadmium induces oxidative stress by the formation of free radicals and decrease natural antioxidant activity in the kidney organs (nephrotoxic). One way to overcome nephrotoxic by decreasing blood creatinine, we can utilize Moringa oleifera (MO) which is known as a "miracle plant" and have high contents of flavonoid groups, phenols, gallic acid, ascorbic acid and carotenoids as antioxidants and natural metal chelating agents. This research aimed to analyze the potential of Moringa leaves in decreasing cadmium and creatinine levels in the blood of white rats due to exposure of cigarette smoke (inhalation) at doses 200, 400 and 800 mg/kgwb. The type of research was an experimental study with quantitative analysis conducted in October 2021 – July 2022. The independent variable was the doses of Moringa leaves extract and the dependent variable were the blood cadmium and creatinine levels of white rats. The blood cadmium level was measured with AAS and the creatinine level was measured with Jaffe method without deproteination by photometry. The results of blood cadmium and creatinine levels in the treatment of MO extract at dose 200 mg/kgwb were 1.288875 μg/L and 0.85 mg/dL; MO extract at dose of 400 mg/kgwb were 0.811 μg/L and 0.775 mg/dL; MO extract at dose 800 mg /kgwb were 0.86275 μg/L and 0.7 mg/dL. Based on statistical analysis using Kruskal wallis, the results of the p value on cadmium levels in the blood were 0.004 < 0.05 and the p value on creatinine levels was 0.003 < 0.05, showed that there were significant differences in blood cadmium and creatinine levels in the treatment groups. Moringa leaf extract (Moringa oleifera) at a dose of 400 mg/kgwb had good potential in overcoming kidney damage in terms of creatinine levels due to cadmium exposure through cigarette smoke, which was equivalent to 44.3756 grams of fresh Moringa leaves that can be implemented for human as an additional antioxidant for overcoming free radicals. Keywords : Moringa oleifera, Cigarettes Smoke, Cadmium, Creatinine, Rattus norvegicus
