Surveyed the directors of 56 community psychology graduate programs to assess multicultural training practices and attitudes. Although most program directors agreed that multicultural training is important in their mission to educate students, less than half the programs (48%) required their students to take any relevant course work and only half of the programs surveyed had any faculty who were members of an ethnic minority group and one third had only one such faculty member. Furthermore, less than half the programs had a combination of training opportunities in place to integrate classroom, research, and field experiences relevant to multicultural issues. Finally, only 23% of program directors believed their training programs were successful for most students, suggesting the need to improve training. KEY WORDS: multicultural training; human diversity in community psychology programs; training in minority issues, multicultural training practices and attitudes.
In most organizations, the marketing department is one of the last areas to embrace enterprise technology. Tools and desktop applications have dominated the environment, but with the adoption of customer relationship management (CRM) systems and e‐mail marketing solutions, marketers are starting to see the benefits that large‐scale automation can bring, including increased efficiencies, more accurate reporting capabilities, and reduced costs. However, this is just the beginning. There are a few key marketing technologies that not only improve bottom line results, but also impact on the top line.
Background of the studyThis study was commissioned by the British Library Research and Development Department to investigate the impact of information received from in-house information centres on the actions of decision makers within the insurance sector. It was intended to replicate research undertaken in the banking sector in Canada by Dr Joanne Marshall and published as The Impact of the Special Library on Corporate Decision-Making (Marshall, 1995). This original work was commissioned by the Special Libraries Association to provide qualitative as well as quantitative evidence of the value of special libraries in an increasingly cost-conscious economic climate. One of the objectives of the project was to establish whether the "Marshall methodology" was applicable to and useful for evaluating other subject and industry areas in the UK.The insurance sector was selected as one of six sector studies as being important to all sections of the community, both businesses and individuals. It was also felt that the library and information requirements of the sector were very diverse and thus worthy of investigation.
