Methods MEDLINE, EMBASE and Cochrane Register of Controlled Trials databases from 1946 to August 2013 were searched using the MeSH (Medical Subject Headings) terms: local anesthesia, nerve block, local anesthetics, regional anesth*, anesthesia conduction combined with the binary operator OR. The result was combined with the MeSH term dexamethasone using the binary operator AND. The search was limited to human and clinical trial or controlled clinical trial or meta-analysis or multicenter study or randomized control trial. Any randomized trial involving the use of dexamethasone as admixture with any local anesthetic in a single shot brachial plexus nerve block was included.
