Background: Unsuccessful restorative treatment of carious lesions in deciduous molars remains a priority for clinicians to resolve when caring for children's dentition. However, regardless of the material or technique used, standard restorative treatments continue to fail and present low survival rates. In an effort to solve these problems, a non-invasive technique known as the Hall Technique was developed with reduced adverse effects and is being studied over the last years, presenting great success in comparison with other restorative techniques. Thus, this systematic review and meta-analysis aim to address the question concerning the survival of preformed metal crowns using the Hall Technique for restoring deciduous molars. Methods: Electronic databases and other sources, such as gray literature will be searched. Randomized controlled trials (RCTs), and Non-Randomized studies of interventions (NRSI) will be included that assess the use of preformed metal crowns using the Hall Technique on primary molars. The outcome will be the cumulative survival rate of preformed metal crowns applied according to the Hall Technique. Two independent reviewers will perform screening, study selection, data extraction, risk of bias, and certainty of evidence assessment. Any discrepancies in opinion will be resolved by a third reviewer who is considered to be an expert in the field. Assessment of the risk of bias of included studies will be evaluated by RoB 2 and ROBINS-I tools. The certainty of evidence will be determined using the GRADE tool. Methodological heterogeneity across studies will be evaluated to determine the best model for the meta-analysis.Discussion: To the best of our knowledge, no systematic review has addressed this gap directly. Findings obtained from the review will be valuable in the decision-making process regarding the use of Hall Technique preformed metal crowns for restoration of decayed primary molars.
Objective: To identify oral characteristics found in children with liver disease in programming for liver transplantation. Data source: The methodology was written according to PRISMA-ScR. We adopted the methodological framework and recommendations for this type of review by Arksey and O’Malley and the Joanna Briggs Institute. The protocol was registered in the Open Science Framework (https://doi.org/10.17605/OSF.IO/QCU4W). A systematic search (Medline/PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and ProQuest) was conducted to identify studies that met the inclusion criteria: systematic reviews; prospective clinical trials (parallel or crossover group designs); observational studies (cohort, case-control, and cross-sectional studies); clinical case series; and case reports evaluating children with liver disease in preparation for transplantation. The last search was conducted in July 2021, and no restrictions were imposed as to language or year of publication. Studies presenting mixed data with post-transplant evaluation, and studies evaluating not only liver transplantation but also other solid organs were excluded. Screening, inclusion, and data extraction were performed by two reviewers independently. A narrative synthesis was conducted to describe the findings of the study. Data synthesis: The bibliographic search identified 830 references. A total of 21 articles were read in their entirety after the inclusion criteria assessment. Finally, after evaluating the exclusion criteria, only 3 studies were considered for the qualitative analysis. Conclusions: Children with liver disease in preparation for transplantation may present enamel defects, tooth pigmentation, caries, gingivitis, and opportunistic infections such as candidiasis.
This work is dedicated to the strong and extraordinary women in my life, especially my mother Jacqueline and my grandmother Gladys (in memoriam). Their infinite love, unending faith, unceasing prayers and hard work represent the pillar of all that I am and are my main support in life. Thank you for teaching me that I am capable of anything and for inspiring me to evolve and flourish. 1604 days ago I left my home. Grabbed my suitcases where I had packed everything I owned, said goodbye to my family and my country, and hopped on a plane.Together with my Julieta, I moved to an unknown place, my birthplace, to begin a challenging adventure that I had been longing for as long as I can remember. And today, with a heart full of emotion, pride and satisfaction, I culminate this dream that has given me infinite lessons, a bit of knowledge, and an unceasing thirst for selfimprovement.First of all, I thank God and the universe for allowing me to live this life-changing experience. Through his wisdom and infinite kindness, he managed to align everything in a perfect way so that I could become a Dentist, with some experience in advertising, gastronomy, medicine and psychology. Nothing happens by chance. To this day, everything has unfolded the way it was meant to be, and without a doubt, that's the only way I could be the person I am today. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to know myself, to accept myself, to overcome myself, to deconstruct and reassemble myself. To my mother, Jacqueline, for never doubting me. Thank you for your support, effort and courage, for your example, your tenacity, your determination and love. You are the pillar that made and makes everything possible in my life. Thanks to you I know that, when one believes, everything is possible. To my father, Edisson, for planting that seed in me about the magic of teaching and research, for teaching me how important excellence is and for pushing me to improve and surpass myself every day.Experiencing your passion and commitment to your work has marked the path that I am proud to share with you. Thank you both for respecting my process and allowing me to walk at my own pace.To my brother, Paulo, my Loli, you are the best friend and the best companion that God could have given me to walk on earth. You are my source of admiration and inspiration. To my brother, Xavier, for teaching me that there are different points of view and different ways of living life. Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPGs) are recommendations for the health care providers and a method to close the know-do gap, transferring the knowledge from the academic research to the clinician. The proposal of this systematic review is to assess the quality of published guidelines regarding Pediatric Dentistry topics using AGREE II instrument and AGREE REX tool. This study is registered on Open Science Framework (OSF). Two examiners will independently search for literature based on the PICO question and will perform a screening of the literature according to inclusion and exclusion criteria, as well as data collection and extraction. The search will be performed in different electronic databases including Medline (PubMed), Embase, Scopus, LIVIVO, Caribbean Health Sciences Literature (Lilacs), Scientific societies, and International association websites (American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry - AAPD, European Academy of Pediatric Dentistry - EAPD, Guidelines International Network (GIN), National Institute for Health and Care Excellence – NICE, TRIP - Turning Research Into Practice database and Scottish Dental Clinical Effectiveness Programme - SDCEP), and grey literature (ProQuest) to identify any topic regarding Pediatric Dentistry guidelines. The search strategy for this systematic review will be defined through the PICO question: “Do the clinical practice guidelines and recommendations on pediatric dentistry meet the quality standards based on the AGREE II instrument and AGREE REX tool?”. We will include evidence-based and consensus-based guidelines that address any topic related to Pediatric Dentistry, and that report on the evidence level supporting each recommendation. We will exclude any outdated documents (when they have the updated version), topics irrelevant to Pediatric Dentistry, and duplicate publications. Inter-rater reliability (Intraclass correlation coefficient) will be calculated to ensure the level of agreement among researchers. For the assessment of eligible guidelines and recommendations, the AGREE II instrument and AGREE REX tool will be used in the complete form. Lastly, descriptive statistics and linear regression models will be conducted.
