Detailed public health records from a region in Switzerland, collected during the 1918 influenza epidemic, were analyzed to study the effect of school closures, restrictions on mass gatherings, and other measures on the size and duration of the epidemic. Similar data collected in Switzerland during the present COVID-19 epidemic were analyzed. The 2 public health responses, occurring more than a century apart, were compared.
