Tuberculosis (TB), caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB), a burgeoning global health concern, is one of the top ten causes of mortality, affecting 10.6 million people; the vast majority of them were in South-East Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa. The etiology of mediastinal lymphadenopathy may be either benign or malignant. In adults, mediastinal lymphadenopathy due to TB may be a solitary finding or associated with pulmonary parenchymal lesions. Typical clinical manifestations such as fever, loss of appetite, and weight may not be present. Herein, we present a case of a 17-year-old male diagnosed with disseminated TB with a massive mediastinal lymph nodal.
Methotrexate is a widely used medication with an array of recognized side effects and it is often the first-line drug prescribed for connective tissue disorders and rheumatological diseases. The aim of the study was to present a case demonstrating methotrexate-induced lung injury in a patient of psoriasis.
Background: Asthma is a noncurable but preventable disease, responsible for higher morbidity worldwide. Approximately, in every fifth asthmatic patient, the possible role of food allergy should be taken into account. Materials and Methods: This was a descriptive study of dietary pattern in asthma control in 1 year, between 2021 and 2022 with 100 asthma and 100 healthy controls. Asthma was diagnosed as per Global Initiative for Asthma 2021. The control group had no respiratory ailments in their entire life span. Diabetes and hypertension were excluded from the study. Dietary habits were documented in both groups in a food diary, and five parameters were given thrust in order to simplify the study. Results: There is a positive correlation between consumption of fast food, packed chips, carbonated drinks and worsening of asthma in 36 patients. Low consumption of cereals has a positive correlation with asthma severity in 38 patients and greater than three times a week sugar intake associated with poor asthma control which is found in 26 patients. Conclusion: The correlation between asthma and the consumption of fast food, salted snacks, fried snacks, fats and oils nuts, dry fruits, and carbonated drinks has been observed in India. Consequently, it becomes crucial to lower the intake of these items and enhance public awareness regarding the impact of fast food on asthma through the implementation of effective public health policies.
Introduction: The current study is to get a glimpse of various confounders in bronchial asthma in order to achieve better remission and symptom control rates. Materials and Methods: Patients presenting to the pulmonary medicine department between September 2021 and August 2022 and eventually diagnosed with bronchial asthma by the consultant, based on the detailed clinical evaluation and investigations, were taken up for this study. Demographics, PFT, details of current asthma treatment, presence of any co-morbidities and AQI on the day of evaluation were documented. The above data were collected in an Excel form and statistically evaluated. Results: Various parameters associated with bronchial asthma were evaluated in our study population. Conclusion: This pilot study highlights factors impacting bronchial asthma diagnosis and management. It emphasizes the importance of thorough assessment, adherence to treatment guidelines, addressing comorbidities, and patient education. Further research is needed to validate findings and develop effective management strategies.
Pneumothorax, empyema, and pyopneumothorax are rare complications of pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB) associated with mortality and morbidity and difficult management. The case report throws light into the difficult management of the associated rare complications of PTB. Pyopneumothorax was drained with intercostal drain and anti-TB therapy was reintroduced.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
