Due to the perceived success of adult drug court programs, the first juvenile drug court programs were implemented in the United States in 1995. As of 2009, there were more than 450 juvenile drug courts operating across the country. Currently, juvenile drug courts are utilized nationwide as a method of diversion for juveniles who have come into contact with the criminal justice system.
