Seismic hazard values are estimated for 226 Canadian Missions abroad. We started with results from the GEM global seismic hazard model, supplemented by values from the literature. The available values were adapted as necessary by applying spectral shape and
magnification factors to get the spectral acceleration values needed. The factors required were derived from Canadian seismic hazard results. The hazard values are intended for screening purposes to assess safety of Missions and continuity of consular services in the context of the 2015 National
Building Code of Canada.
There are currently some 20 roadheaders equipped with a water jet assist feature operating within the western world. Five of these, some 25% of the total, are operating in the development of CBDC's new Phalen mine. The opportunity was taken to conduct an
investigation into the effects that a range of medium pressure jet assistances might have upon the production of respirable airborne dust. The roadheader selected is cutting a decline tunnel that is supported by heat-treated, U-shaped steel arches of internal dimensions 5.5 m width by 3.75 m height.
These dimensions give an approximate excavated cross-sectional area of 17.7 m2 . The decline tunnel is being driven in the Phalen Seam. Variations in seam height and gradient resulted in a decline tunnel face of between 28% and 61% rock including siltstones, mudstones and
sandstones.
As part of ongoing geotechnical research activities at the Cape Breton Coal Research Laboratory, samples were collected from the Donkin- Morien Harbour seam bulk coal driveage. A programme of irregular lump point load testing was undertaken and uniaxial and
tensile strength parameters derived. Strength values are given both parallel and perpendicular to the bedding plane and an anisotropy index calculated. A preliminary comparison between the Donkin-Morien and other Sydney Coalfield data reveals that the Donkin-Morien Harbour seam properties are very
similar to those obtained from No. 26 Colliery.
Star.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
