Energy (DOE) i s performing a technical analysis t o support the potential development of risk-based, numerical radiological control c r i t e r i a (RCC) for mixed waste from DOE operations. As p a r t of the technical analysis, potential future radiation doses are being calculated f o r workers a t thermal treatment f a c i l i t i e s and members of the public residing near such f a c i l i t i e s. This study compared two types of therm'al treatment systems: combustion chamber with excess a i r , represented by a rotary kiln with afterburner, and an oxygen-deficient pyrolysis u n i t , represented by a plasma arc furnace.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
