After installation and calibration of k0-assisted NAA in three Central European research institutes (AEKI-Budapest, NPI-Rez, and IJS, Ljubljana), its validation was established via the analysis of three BCR certified reference materials. The matrices of choice were: CRM 277 estuarine sediment, CRM 038 coal fly ash from pulverized coal, and CRM 101 spruce needles. For some elements, e.g. Zn, Cd, and Hg, the analyses were not only performed instrumentally (INAA), but also in the radiochemical mode (RNAA). The work was performed in the framework of a European Copernicus Project.
Instrumental Neutron Activation Analysis (INAA) is often considered to be an old and expensive analysis technique, but its virtues sti]l stand today: ir is an effective, nondestructive, reliable, highly sensitive and multi-element technique. INAA is mainly used at universities or atomic energy research institutes which have a nuclear reactor at their diposal. Although DSM Research does not have a nuclear reactor, INAA has become one of its key analytical techniques because it was introduced via a coramercial approach and because INAA is a highly suitable technique for the range of sarnples analysed at DSM Reseaxch.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
