The purpose of this paper is to describe the equipment and procedures developed at the General Electric Research and Development Center for testing and evaluating materials at elevated temperature under uniaxial controlled cyclic strain. Items considered include specimen design and surface finish, grip design and specimen assembly, extensometer design and operation, instrumentation, heating and temperature control, test operation, and failure interpretation and data reduction.
