A crossed-beam apparatus has been employed in a spectroscopic study of electrons photodetached from C − ions at a photon energy of 2.08 eV. Measurements of the partial cross sections σ and asymmetry parameters β for the hν + C − ( 2 D) → C( 1 D) + e − (ks, d) and hν + C − ( 4 S) → C( 3 P) + e − (ks, d) processes yielded the following results: σ ( 2 D-1 D) = 5(2) Mb, σ ( 4 S-3 P) = 12(3) Mb and β( 2 D-1 D) = −0.93(7), β( 2 D-1 D) = −0.88(7). These are the first measurements in the case of the 2 D-1 D transition.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
