This study aimed to implement the multimedia learning materials in teaching speaking skills. The problems investigated were to what extent the practicality of the multimedia learning materials was. This was gathered from the lecturers' and the students' responses. Similarly, it also investigated the effectiveness of the multimedia learning materials for teaching speaking skills. Three lecturers had implemented the multimedia learning materials, and the results of the implementation were significantly effective. It was indicated by the comparison between t-test>t-table for groups I, II, III (7.424>2.093; 7.796>2.093; 10.342>2.093).It was concluded that the use of multimedia learning materials in teaching speaking skills was practical and effective.
For the purpose of achieving a good essay writing, the students need to have capability to use the lexical and grammatical cohesions. This research aimed to describe the lexical and grammatical cohesions used by the students in writing essays at Makassar Muhammadiyah University. The research samples consisted of 91 students’ esssays from the English Education Department of FKIP Unismuh Makassar. The research used a writing test as an instrument to collect data. To achieve the aim of the research, a mixed method was used to describe the results of data analysis quatitatively and qualitatively. The results of the research revealed the use of lexical cohesion which included the use of repetition, synonym, hyponym, antonym, meronym, general noun, and collocation. From the seven kinds of lexical cohesion used by the students in writing essays, the general noun was mostly used by the students. Futhermore, grammatical cohesion revealed the use of reference, substitution, ellipsis, and conjunction. Among them, the reference as a cohesion mark was mostly used by the students. The implication of the research results might be used significantly as the base for developing learning materials in teaching writing as one of the English productive skills.
This research is a qualitative discritive research. The data source in this research is the novel Bekisar Merah by Ahmad Tohari. The results of the data were obtained with reading, taking notes and coding sentences related to the structure. The validity of the data in this research used the observation persistence technique and had been tested by team of experts. The purpose of this research is to describe the structural in the novel Bekisar Merah by Ahmad Tohari. The results of this research are in the form of structural explanation in the novel Bekisar Merah by Ahmad Tohari. The structural form of the novel Bekisar Merah are; character, plot, background, theme and message.
The article was concerned with the use of IFDAD model for developing the syntactic teaching materials. The research aimed to describe the feasibility level of materials development. The research instrument which had been used consisted of 16 questionnaire items. The five experts were expected to assess the prototype of syntactic materials developed through the given model. The data which had been organized were analysed by using a mean percentage. The research results revealed that the feasibility of teaching materials development through the given model reached the average percentage of 83.05%. Based on the indicators which had been used to measure the four variables, it was indicated that the appropriateness percentage of each variable was great, namely the appropriateness of contents (86.00%), the appropriateness of language (91.25%), the appropriateness of presentation (75.00%), and the appropriateness of graphic (80.00%). The implementation of the research was to expose the feasibility of materials development for teaching the English syntax.
The purpose of this study, to determine the cultural values of Lampung in the poetry anthology Hikayat Secangkir Robusta. The method used in this research is descriptive method with a qualitative approach. The results showed that in the poetry anthology Hikayat Secangkir Robusta there are cultural values of Lampung in the form of Piil Pesenggiri which includes nemui nyimah, juluk adok, nengah nyappur, sakai sambaian. (1) nemui nyimah that is contained in the poetry anthology related to the attitude of the Lampung community towards guests, dances, and typical Lampung food as a banquet. (2) juluk adok in the poetry anthology is related to the customary names and titles given to children, siblings, siblings and uncles as well as the giving of titles to respected people. (3) nengah nyappur in this poetry anthology is related to people's ways or attitudes to socialize, socialize and solve problems by deliberation. (4) sakai sambaian This poetry anthology relates to the attitude of the Lampung people in working together, working together to make the Lampung region more advanced. The cultural values of Lampung can be applied by high school students because they have a positive value for the character development of students. With regard to the aspect of selecting teaching materials, the poetry anthology Hikayat Secangkir Robusta has fulfilled three aspects of teaching materials, namely language, psychology and cultural background. Therefore, this poetry anthology deserves to be used as an alternative teaching material for Lampung cultural values for high school teachers.
