Objective: The aim of this study is to describe the effects of traditional Korean medicine on a patient with dysphagia and anorexia following an acute lumbar compression fracture.Methods: The patient was treated with acupuncture and herbal medicine (<i>Bojungikgi-tang</i> and <i>Insamyangyoung-tang</i>), and the effects of the treatment were evaluated by monitoring oral feeding and using the Modified Barium Swallow (MBS) test.Results: After treatment, the amount of oral feeding more than doubled and the MBS was also improved.Conclusion: The results suggest that traditional Korean medicine may be effective for treating dysphagia and anorexia after an acute lumbar compression fracture.
Objectives: This study aimed to describe the effects of traditional Korean medical treatment on a patient with asthma.Methods: The patient (female, 88) was treated with herbal medicine (<i>Sojaganggi-tang</i>), acupuncture, and moxibustion. The effects of these treatments were evaluated using the Modified Borg Scale (MBS) and Quality of Life Questionnaire for Adult Korean Asthmatics (QLQAKA).Results: Following treatment, the MBS score decreased from 7 to 4, and the QLQAKA score increased from 45 to 57.Conclusion: The results suggest that traditional Korean medicine can effectively treat patients with asthma.
Objectives This study was designed to review the effect of herbal medicine on animal model and patients with osteoporosis. Methods The databases in Korea and overseas were searched with term as osteoporosis, Chinese medicine, Korean medicine, herbal medicine. Among the results, we reviewed studies published in 2011 to 2020. 420 articles were primarily selected and after processing through flowchart, finally 72 studies were selected. Results Above 72 studies, 71 studies showed that the herbal medicine was effective on treating osteoporosis, using macroscopical, osteological, histological, hematological analysis and urinalysis. Conclusions Using herbal medicine for treating osteoporosis is effective in various pathways. But further study should be conducted to clarify its treatment mechanisms and effectiveness.
