ResumoAs pequenas frutas, como o mirtilo (Vaccinium spp.), apresentam propriedades nutricionais e alto potencial antioxidante. Práticas de manejo como a época de poda podem provocar diferentes respostas nas plantas, devido a alterações nas condições climáticas a que as plantas estarão expostas durante seu período reprodutivo. O objetivo do presente trabalho foi avaliar o efeito da poda seca sobre a produção e atributos de qualidade dos frutos de mirtileiro, cultivares Clímax, Bluegem e Powderblue, nas condições da mesorregião de Pelotas, RS. Foram utilizadas plantas adultas de mirtileiro (Vaccinium spp.) de pomar comercial, localizado no município de Morro Redondo, RS. Plantas em diferentes parcelas foram submetidas a podas em duas datas: poda 1 em 10 de julho de 2012 e a poda 2 em 10 de agosto de 2012. Frutos colhidos no estadio de maturação completa foram avaliados quanto a produção, teor de sólidos solúveis (SS), acidez total titulável (ATT), pH, cor (°Hue), teor de compostos fenólicos totais, teor de antocianinas totais e potencial antioxidante. A época da poda seca influenciou de forma significativa a produção e os atributos de qualidade dos frutos de mirtilo. A poda, quando realizada na época 1, ocasionou maior produção, entretanto foi na época de poda 2 que as cultivares apresentaram maior teor de compostos fenólicos. As cultivares Bluegem e Powderblue apresentaram ainda maior potencial antioxidante e maior teor de antocianinas.Palavras-chave: Vaccinium spp., atributos de qualidade, fitoquímicos, época de poda. Effect pruning time on yield and quality of blueberry fruitAbstract Small fruit such as blueberry (Vaccinium spp.) present nutraceutical properties and elevated antioxidant potential. Cultural practices such as pruning time can promote various responses in the plants due to the changed environmental conditions that the plants are exposed during their reproductive period. The objective of this study was to evaluate pruning time on production and fruit quality attributes of cultivars Clímax, Bluegem and Powderblue, cultivated in the mesorregion of Pelotas, RS. Adult blueberry plants (Vaccinium spp.) of a commercial orchard, located in Morro Redondo, RS were utilized. Plants of different parcels were submitted to one pruning at different time: pruning 1, in July 10th 2012 and pruning 2 in August 10th 2012. Fruit harvested at the full ripe stage were evaluated for production, soluble solids content (SSC), total titratable acidity (TTA), pH, color (°Hue), total phenolic content, total anthocyanin content and antioxidant potential. Pruning time significantly influenced production and quality attributes of blueberry fruit. Pruning 1 lead to higher production, however, plants pruned at time 2 showed higher phenolic content and cultivars Bluegem and Powderblue also had higher antioxidant potential and higher anthocyanin content.
Rice storage is essential to meet the demand of processing industries and consumers. Thus, the objective with the study was to evaluate the effects of time and temperature storage whole grain rice grain with brown pericarp, black, and red on the percentage stained, sour, and yellow, colorimetric profile, gravimetric and volumetric yields and sensory parameters. Whole rice grains with brown, black, and red pericarp were stored in 13% at temperatures of 16, 24, 32, and 40 °C for 6 months. After 6 months of storage at 40 °C, the larger increments of yellow grains is observed, which reduces the typification of the grains, reducing the L* value, and increases the values of a* and b* for grains with brown and black pericarp and reducing L*, a* and b* for the grain pericarp red. Brown grain pericarp stored at 40 °C showed increases in the gravimetric and volumetric yield and grain with red pericarp showed an increase in volumetric yield in storage at 40 °C, compared to the beginning of storage. The firmness parameters, flavor, acceptance, and purchase intent, had the best ratings in grains with brown and red pericarp, stored at 24 °C. In general, the storage of whole rice grains in the temperature range between 16 and 24 °C is what provides the smallest changes of the parameters evaluated.
The objective of this work was to characterize the blueberry (Vaccinium spp.) cultivar Climax, Rabbiteye group (Vaccinium ashei Reade). In order to achieve that, a survey with blueberry plants (cultivar Climax), in full production, was conducted during the 2012/13 and 2013/14 seasons in the mesoregion of Pelotas, Rio Grande do Sul State, Brazil. Data regarding the distribution of flower and vegetative buds on branches of two lengths (long and short) was collected. Another evaluation, considering three positions of flower buds in the branch (apical, medial and basal), the number of flower primordia, open flowers and fruits formed was performed. Data were subject to ANOVA and, when significant, the averages were compared using either the F or Tukey's HSD test (p ≤ 0.05). The results demonstrate the presence of flower buds intercalated with vegetative ones. The total number of flower and vegetative buds, flower primordia, flowers and fruits was influenced by the length of the branch. Likewise, the position of the bud on the branch affected the results, with a greater number of flower primordia on the basal, a greater number of flowers on the medial and a greater number of fruits on the apical portions of the branches.
