Steel pipe with wings installed in a cement column is a composite foundation of pile consisting of soil improvement with cement and steel pipe with wings. This type of pile shows higher vertical and lateral bearing capacity when compared to steel pipe piles that are installed without soil cement. In addition, this type of pile is environmental friendly since very little amount of soil is displacement during its installation. In-situ pile loading tests were carried out in order to investigate the behavior of the composite foundation and to establish a design method for this type of pile. The bearing capacity of this pile is largely improved when compared with steel pile without soil cement improvement. The ultimate load of the vertical bearing capacity was found to be 4 times that of steel pipe pile with wings but without cement improvement. The lateral bearing capacity is enhanced due to the improvement of the coefficient of lateral subgrade reaction. Also, the performance of this pile is largely increased when the diameter of the soil cement is increased.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
