Currently, GVPC is a recommended medium for the detection of
Legionella
spp. in water samples. However, recovery of
Legionella
spp. and selectivity properties can be improved.
In the era of rapid microbiological methods, there is a need to improve long-established culture techniques. Drawbacks of the pour plate method include having to melt each medium separately before seeding.
Farrell’s medium (FM) and CITA medium (CM), recommended for
Brucella
isolation in animal samples, are inhibitory for certain strains. A reformulated
Brucella
selective medium (BSM), containing half the CM vancomycin and colistin concentrations, improved the isolation of
B. melitensis
, but not
Brucella abortus
bv1.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
