Background: Many studies have confirmed headache as one of the most common COVID-19-related neurological symptoms. There are some reports concerning migraine attacks during SARS-CoV-2 infection with an unusual course of migraine attack. Our aim was to recognize and characterize accurately the features of headaches accompanying this disease. Methods: Research based on questionnaire study gathered 100 randomly chosen medical healthcare employees who experienced symptoms associated with COVID-19 disease, 96 with confirmed COVID-19 (positive SARS-CoV-2 PCR laboratory test or positive rapid COVID-19 antigen test). Conclusion: Headaches reported in the study did not fulfill criteria for migraine with/without aura, tension-type headache according to ICHD-3.
Introduction: A stroke is one of the causes of disability in the world. The occurrence of a stroke leads to many complications in a patient’s physical and mental sphere. In patients after a stroke, whose muscle tone is reduced, a lower subluxation in the glenohumeral joint may be observed. The glenohumeral joint cannot be considered as an independent joint, but as the whole intricate shoulder complex. Materials and Methods: The study included the results of 40 patients after an ischemic stroke with a reduced muscle tone and muscle strength of an upper limb. In the examined group, an original application of Kinesiology Taping of the shoulder girdle was used. The examination evaluated the articular space of the glenohumeral joint, the relative length of the shoulder and the distance of the lower shoulder blade from the line of spinous processes. Results: In the whole examined group, lower subluxation was noted in 32,5% of patients. The study demonstrated that Kinesiology Taping affects the shoulder’s linear measurements and shoulder blade arrangement in people with reduced muscle tone after a stroke. The distance between the shoulder blade’s angle and the spine decreases, while the relative value of the shoulder’s length is reduced in people, on whom the application was used. Conclusions: The original Kinesiology Taping application turned out to be an effective preventive measure of a lower subluxation in the glenohumeral joint.
There are no official recommendations regarding physiotherapy for encephalitis patients. However, such patients, depending on their condition, have to undergo rehabilitation preceded by a detailed functional examination. The paper describes the physiotherapy treatment of a 28-year-old female after acute encephalitis. She suffered three-limb palsy with preserved movement in the right ankle joint. The patient was admitted to a clinic that offers respiratory therapy, where she underwent a comprehensive rehabilitation process. The initial and final functional assessment was conducted based on the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health. The therapy aimed to enable social contacts by learning to communicate with the environment, taking advantage of learned motor skills and adapting the body to maintain a sitting position. The goals were implemented with gradual upright standing, electrostimulation of paralyzed muscles, orofacial therapy, methods of respiratory acceleration and the use of communication technologies. As a result of the physiotherapy, the patient can communicate with the environment more efficiently and showed a more assertive attitude towards the disease and greater motivation to exercise and socialize. This paper supports the importance of a rehabilitation program adapted to the needs of a patient with severe disabilities and encourages more studies in this area.
