Stearic acid was encapsulated successfully with SiO2 shell in nano scale by in situ emulsion interfacial hydrolysis and poly- condensation techniques. The influence of using different mixing techniques on these techniques was investigated. Morphologic, thermal and crystal structure analysis results show that the ultrasonic mixing technique is suggested for synthesis of SiO2 nanocapsules. Ultrasonic vibrations lead to more homogeneous covering of the oil droplets without residuals by effectively orienting SiO2 molecules during polymerization.
Lay Summary
Encapsulation of PCMS makes their applications in thermal energy storage more practical. SiO2 easily found in nature is used as a shell material here. Effective encapsulation methods with SiO2 are investigated.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
