To assess the difision of mediation effects throughout the community at large, the Peer Mediation Program (PMP) was initiated and assessed as a test case in a large, culturally diverse, urban middle school by the Santa Monica-based Dispute Resolution Sewices in the period 1987-1 989. This article on the results of PMP finds evidence for high levels ojutilization, individual case success, and satisfaction with outcomes. Evidence that mediation effects spread throughout the student community at large is seen in data from disputant referral patterns and faculty assessments, but not in datafrom students at large.
