This research aimed to discuss the place of literature in the teaching of English as a foreign language in order to respond to two research questions: (i) "what do Basic education official documents foresee regarding work with literary texts in English classes?"; (ii) "what are the challenges and possibilities of working with literature in foreign language classes?". The investigation was founded on the theoretical assumptions from the multiliteracies framework
