Introduction We describe the use of telepathology in countries with restricted resources using two diagnosis assistance systems (Isabel and Memem7) in addition to the diagnoses made by experts in pathology via the iPath-Network. Methods A total of 156 cases, largely from Afghanistan, were analysed; 18 cases had to be excluded because of poor image quality. Results Of the remaining 138 cases (100%), a responsible physician provided a tentative diagnosis for 61.6% of them. With a diagnosis from a consultant pathologist, it was then possible to make a definite diagnosis in 84.8% of cases on the basis of images taken from hematoxylin and eosin staining sections alone. The use of the diagnosis assistance systems resulted in an ordered list of differential diagnoses in 82.6% (IsabelHealth) and in 74.6% (Memem7) of cases, respectively. Adding morphological terminology reduced the list of possible diagnoses to 52.2% (72 cases, Memem7), but improved their quality. Discussion In summary, diagnosis assistance systems are promising approaches to provide physicians in countries with restricted resources with lists of probable differential diagnoses, thus increasing the plausibility of the diagnosis of the consultant pathologist.
This paper deals with the methods for investigating the nonlinear dynamics of discrete chaotic systems (DCS) applied to piecewise linear systems of the third order. The paper proposes an approach to the analysis of the systems under research and their improvement. Thus, effective and mathematically sound methods for the analysis of nonlinear motions in the models under consideration are proposed. It makes it possible to obtain simple calculated relations for determining the basic dynamic characteristics of systems. Based on these methods, the authors developed algorithms for calculating the dynamic characteristics of discrete systems, i.e. areas of the existence of steady-state motion, areas of stability, capture band, and parameters of transients. By virtue of the developed methods and algorithms, the dynamic modes of several models of discrete phase synchronization systems can be analyzed. They are as follows: Pulsed and digital different orders, dual-ring systems of various types, including combined ones, and systems with cyclic interruption of auto-tuning. The efficiency of various devices for information processing, generation and stabilization could be increased by using the mentioned discrete synchronization systems on the grounds of the results of the analysis. We are now developing original software for analyzing the dynamic characteristics of various classes of discrete phase synchronization systems, based on the developed methods and algorithms.
The authors consider an issue of reliable and efficient performance of offshore drilling platforms. It was found that one of the reasons for degrading the factors under review was poor quality of the electric energy generated by a local power-constrained plant when operating for heavy energy converters as well as imperfection of the actuating system controlling quality factors. In order to develop new methods or upgrade known ones and ways of improving quality of performance of the systems under examination, it is required to solve the qualimetry problems. In its turn, this requires solving the problem of identification of the structure of this system and on-line monitoring of changes in its parameters and signals. The modern drilling platform's electric power systems are characterized by the presence in its composition of a great number of the load that has a negative impact on the supplying network of the alternating current, generating into it highest harmonic components of currents and voltages. A great deal of drilling platform's automation systems apply the line currents and voltages to form the reference signal. It is known that filter-compensating devices are the most efficient means to increase the quality of electric energy in the autonomous power supply systems at the moment. Their efficiency in higher harmonic suppression and compensation of their volt-ampere reactive may be provided only with the high accuracy of the calculation of parameters in the target harmonics of the line currents and voltages. And as harmonic composition periodically varies depending on the regime of operation and the composition of load of the electric power station, the settings of filtering devices should be changed constantly, that can be done by means of identification and on-line monitoring processes. The authors have proposed a candidate solution for such a problem through the example of identification and synthesis of the system of measuring system performance indicators required to appraise the electric power quality in this system and, as consequence, performance quality.Index Terms-Control systems, drilling platforms, electric power quality, identification and tracking.
