This work examines the integration of a spherical inverted-F antenna (SIFA) and a spherical buoy structure. The resulting multifunctional antenna system includes an inertial measurement unit (IMU), microcontroller (MCU), rechargeable battery, and wireless radio. The IMU collects motion-dynamic information from the structure and relays this information in a star network configuration to a central node for processing. This information was used with numerically-derived shallow ocean wave propagation data as basis functions in a modified MUSIC algorithm to determine the wave fronts' point of origin. Results for the SIFA-buoy and network are included.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
