Compared with the recording of the Creston and Heiden works, which were recorded in Indiana in 1981, the mixing of the six wind instruments is first-rate. The instruments are balanced well in both channels, producing an acoustically realistic performance. This disc will prove to be a valuable addition to many collections, and saxophone students should consider making it part of their study materials. The program notes, written by Donald Gilman and Sonny Burnette, are superb, and the disc's surfaces are quiet.
