This study is aimed to investigate effect of teachers’ self-efficacy on their attitude towards the implementation of Multicultural Education literacy (MCEL) in Harari Region Secondary Schools. To realize this descriptive survey design with the quantitative approach is adopted. One hundred, teachers are selected by using stratified random sampling technique and then the simple random sampling technique. Data are collected through closed-ended questionnaires. Descriptive and inferential statistical data analysis is employed. The finding showed that the practice of MCEL in school was medium and teachers’ self-efficacy toward implementations of MCEL in the schools was found statistically significant. Self-efficacy in the implementation of MCEL was a statistically significant predictor of teacher’s attitude and practices toward the implementation of MCEL in the schools respectively. Self-efficacy contributed 17% on attitude and 26 % to practices in the implementation of MCEL had a positive impact. Self-efficacy of teachers toward MCEL had a statistically significant moderate positive relationship with teachers’ practices of MCEL. Self-efficacy had a positive impact on the attitude of teachers and practices of teachers in the implementation of MCEL. Based on the findings, it was concluded the study presented for further research in the field and policy action to prepare teachers in multicultural setting curricula and multicultural educators influencing the development of cultural tolerance, mutual understanding, and unity among diverse students. Hence, it was recommended that organizing panel discussion in order to improve self-efficacy and attitude of teachers from multicultural perspectives in line with implementation of multicultural education through media to build tolerance, mutual respect, build positive attitudes, and national building practices among student in the schools. Further implications and directions for future study are forwarded.
The purpose of this study is to examine the current educational practices from multicultural perspective in secondary schools of Eastern Wollega Zone, Oromia, Ethiopia. To realize this, survey method was adopted to collect data from 5 experts, 10 principals, 51 teachers, and 102 students. The students were select randomly by using simple random sampling techniques while experts, principals, and teachers were selected by the availability sampling method. Questionnaires and interviews were used for data collections. The collected data were analyzed by frequencies, percentages, and narration of words. The findings revealed that respondents were highly aware of multicultural education. However, it was not implemented into educational practices. Furthermore, lack of skills, knowledge, negative attitude, and discrimination based on prejudices, ethnocentrism, politics, and religion were the main challenges. The study confirmed that establishing clubs could boost multicultural education awareness and positive attitude. It could also raise the students, teachers, and the society’s awareness about multicultural education. Teachers should encourage students in practicing tolerance and respecting differences. Furthermore, school principals and Oromia Education Bureau should create different mechanisms for nurturing multicultural education and creating a means to minimize discrimination. Finally, the study indicates the need for preparing teachers, students, and the school community to build unity within diversity and tolerance in the schools.
The study was directed towards assessing material resource utilization practices and challenges in Wollega University. Descriptive research design was employed. Data were collected using sample of 88 academic staff and 121administrative staff. Both academic and administrative staffs were selected by stratified sampling technique along with using simple random sampling method. A questionnaire and interview were used as tools for data collection. The data obtained through the questionnaires and interview were analyzed using descriptive analysis like, frequency and percentages. The result indicates that procurement process, storage, controlling mechanisms, and maintenance have a significant effect on material resource utilization in Wollega University. The study also revealed that the major challenges identified were poor procurement process, inadequate storage, tight controlling mechanisms, and poor maintenance activities. The disposal of obsolete material was found to be insignificant, which has invisible effect on material resource utilization. Moreover, it is recommended that specification of resources have to be identified, building permanent stores and storage of materials could have to be arranged, it is better to hire effective and sufficient maintenance professionals and organize separate maintenance center in the institution.
