Syzygium (Myrtaceae) consists of a lot of species which are widely distributed. One of the distribution areas is the Natural Park of Gunung Baung (TWA Gunung Baung) in Pasuruan, East Java. The results of exploration and characterization of known species show that there are six species of Syzygium known to grow in this region namely S. cumini, S. littorale, S. pycnanthum, S. polyanthum, S. racemosum, and S. samarangense. S. pycnanthum is the most frequently found in Gunung Baung. S. polyanthum and S. samarangense are the only species that are known to be cultivated. Four other species are wild and have not been explored for their potential utilization.
Syzygium cumini belongs to Myrtaceae family. It is known as duwet, juwet, jamblang, etc in Indonesia. Although this species is well known by Indonesian, the information about character of growth this species still limited. Germinations process of this species is one of important information that must be known. This research aims to know about germinations of seed and growth of seedling this species. Seed germinations start at 18 day after sowing. The percentage of seed viability was 53.33%.

Kebun Raya Purwodadi memiliki tugas melakukan konservasi tumbuhan melalui inventarisasi, eksplorasi, penanaman koleksi, dan pemeliharaan tumbuhan, khususnya tumbuhan dataran rendah kering. Kegiatan eksplorasi dan pengkoleksian tumbuhan bertujuan konservasi untuk menyelamatkan tumbuhan dari kepunahan, serta melakukan penelitian dan dokumentasi keanekaragaman tumbuhan di suatu kawasan, dimana target utama dalam strategi global untuk konservasi tumbuhan / Global Strategy for Plant Conservation (GSPC) adalah diketahuinya dan terdokumentasikannya keanekaragaman tumbuhan, khususnya pada habitat-habitat terancam yang menjadi prioritas. Pulau Sempu yang berstatus sebagai cagar alam memiliki keragaman tipe ekosistem dan keanekaragaman flora dan fauna yang endemik serta unik. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui keanekaragaman tumbuhan di Cagar Alam Pulau Sempu (CAPS) berdasarkan kajian pustaka dari berbagai penelitian yang pernah dilakukan. Hal ini dilakukan sebagai dasar dalam merencanakan kegiatan eksplorasi, pengkoleksian, dan dokumentasi keanekaragaman flora di Cagar Alam Pulau Sempu -Jawa Timur. Berdasarkan kajian pustaka terhadap diketahui terdapat 282 jenis keanekaragaman tumbuhan di CAPS. Dari 282 jenis yang termasuk dalam 80 suku tersebut, terdapat pada 10 blok/titik lokasi, yaitu Telaga Lele, Telaga Sat, Telaga Dowo, Gladakan, Baru-baru, Gua Macan, Teluk Ra'as, Teluk Semut, Air Tawar, dan Waru-Waru. Exploration activities and plants collection aim to conserve and save the plants from extinction, as well as conduct research and documentation of plant diversity in a region. It's related of the global strategy for plant conservation (GSPC) target is known and documentation of plants diversity, especially in threatened habitats could be a priority. Sempu island's status as a nature reserve has a diversity of ecosystem and biodiversity of flora and fauna that are endemic and unique. This study aims to determine the plant's diversity in Island Sempu Nature Reserve based on a literature review of various studies that have been done. This study is a database for planning exploration activities, collecting, and documenting the plant's diversity in Sempu Island -East Java. Flower formation is a process of flowering plant in order to produce the next generation. Flower plays a major role in pollination and fertilization as early stage of fruit and seed formation. Syzygium pycnanthum is a member of family Myrtaceae or known as 'Jambujambuan' family. The research aim was to observe the development process of flowering and fruiting phase of S. pycnanthum at Purwodadi Botanical Garden. It has been noted that this species has ten (10) stages of flowering and fruit development, namely flower bud initiation, flower bud fully emerge, unfolding calyx, visible corolla, bud starts blooming, early blooming, perfectly blooming, perianths and anthers fall, early fruit structure and ripe fruit. All these stages require 80-89 days.
