In the last few decades, employee engagement has attracted the attention of scholars and social scientists due to its significant positive impact on organizational and personnel wellbeing. Given this understanding, the present study aims to examine the factors that influence employee engagement in the Indian education industry. Data for the study were collected from 370 fulltime teachers engaged in delivering courses to graduate/postgraduate students. Exploratory factor analysis revealed work environment, emotional satiety, compensation system, career progression, clear communication, and quality of leadership as the factors that impact employee engagement. Regression analysis established the statistical significance of four of these six variables: work environment, emotional satiety, compensation system, and career progression. Results of the study have been integrated with the social exchange theory. Theoretical and practical implications are discussed.
