Objective: Kinesiophobia and fear to return to activity are common problems encountered following musculoskeletal injuries. The relationship between kinesiophobia and some psychological parameters has been investigated in the individuals with a history of ligament injury or fracture of lower extremity. Material and method: The study included 120 individuals (60 female, 60 male), 40 individuals with a history of ligament injury, 40 individuals with a history of fractures in the lower extremities and 40 healthy individuals. The participants were evaluated with Tampa Scale of Kinesiophobia (TSK) and the State and Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI-I&STAI-II). Number of fractures or ligament injuries, time of injury, time elapsed from the diagnosis and the duration of treatment were noted. Results: There were no significant differences between the groups in terms of STAI-I and STAI-II scores (p>0.05), however there were significant differences between groups in terms of TSK scores (p=0.001). There were no correlation between STAI-I and TSK scores and STAI-II and TSK scores (p>0.05). TSK scores of the individuals with a history of fracture were significantly higher than other groups (p=0.007). There were no significant differences between the TSK scores in terms of fracture location and ligament injury (p>0.05). Conclusion: It has been concluded that kinesiophobia was not related to emotional status and anxiety levels. Higher kinesiophobia scores of the individuals who had fractures could be related to longer periods of treatment.
Student opinions are important to improve the physiotherapy and rehabilitation curriculum, and to maintain the quality of education. This study aimed to evaluate the students' perception levels related to anatomy education in terms of electrotherapy lectures. Third and fourth-year physiotherapy students (61 female, 43 male) have voluntarily participated in this study. The data were obtained by a survey, which consists of 29 closed-ended (15 Likert-type questions) questions. The average age was 21.82 ± 1.62 years. The grade point average of the participants, which is based on the 4-point scale, is 2.33 ± 0.44 points. There was no difference between the genders in terms of the grade point averages (p = 0.78). Students stated that the anatomy knowledge of the musculoskeletal system is extremely important in terms of electrotherapy lectures. This is followed by the nervous system and the circulatory system, respectively. They also stated that they need more anatomy knowledge during motor point stimulation applications (50%), and less anatomy knowledge during ultrasound applications (15.38%). In the results of Likert-type survey, first and second highest scores were pertained to "I need anatomy knowledge when inserting electrodes" and "The knowledge which is obtained from anatomy lectures affect to the motor nerve stimulations" (1.42 ± 0.67 and 1.40 ± 0.66, respectively, p < 0.05) and the least score was pertained to "I need to look at my anatomy notes before the electrotherapy exams" (0.41 ± 0.88, p < 0.05). The results from this study help to enhance our conceptual understanding of students' perception levels of anatomy education importance in terms of electrotherapy lectures.
Background/aim: The aim of this study is to evaluate the levels of self-awareness, physical activity, sleep quality, depression and life satisfaction of university students during the Covid-19 pandemic period. Materials and methods: 200 university students (133 female, and 67 male) who agreed to participate in the study voluntarily were included. The average age of the students was 21.57±2.03. The students replied about the effects of pandemic process with Likert scale that 14 questions. The International Physical Activity Questionnaire (Short Form) (IPAQ-SF), Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), Beck Depression Scale (BDI), Life Satisfaction Questionnaire (SLWS) were applied to students. Results: According to the results of the study; In the term of Covid-19, it was determined that physical activity and exercise habits were decreased. The participants with good sleep quality. Among the questions in the self-awareness questionnaire, the most frequently participated question by the students was 66% increase in sitting time and the least agreed 2% decrease in sitting time. Among these questions, the significance level is p = 0.01. Conclusion: During the Covid-19 process, students' self-awareness, physical activity levels, sleep quality and life satisfaction found to be high, and the severity of depression low during the online / distance education period. We think that long-term follow-up studies during the pandemic process will contribute to the literature.
Introduction: Patients receiving hemodialysis treatment for chronic renal failure (CRF) develop various symptoms and experience lifestyle changes. CRF is a progressive disease characterized by irreversible loss of nephrons. Objective: The aim of the study was to evaluate fatigue, sleep quality and activities of daily living in patients with chronic renal failure. Method: This was a descriptive cross-sectional study. Sixty-seven CRF patients aged over 18 years who admitted to a private dialysis center for hemodialysis treatment were included. Sociodemographic information was recorded and the 'Visual Analog Scale for Fatigue' was used to evaluate fatigue, the 'Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index' for assessment of sleep quality and the 'Katz Activities of Daily Living Scale' for evaluation of activities of daily living for all patients. All evaluations were conducted by the same investigator before hemodialysis session. Fatigue level assessment was repeated after hemodialysis session. The data obtained were analyzed using the SPSS 24.0 software package. Results: Thirty (44.8%) females and 37 (55.2%) males were enrolled in the study. The mean age of the study population was 55.8 ± 15.75 years. 74.6% of the patients had poor sleep quality. The mean fatigue score of the patients was 4.82 ± 2.02 before hemodialysis and 8.79±1.67 after hemodialysis, as assessed by Visual Analog Scale for Fatigue. All participants were independent in activities of daily living. The average of Katz Activities of Daily Living Scale was 17.03±0.57. Conclusion: In line with former studies, fatigue was the most common symptom in the study patients undergoing hemodialysis treatment for chronic renal failure. Additionally, poor sleep quality and reduced performance in the activities of daily living in the study participants are noteworthy. Hemodialysis causes a number of symptoms that patients have to cope with in their daily lives. It is important to guide patients about individualized rehabilitation programs in the treatment of chronic renal failure.
Meme kanserinde tedaviler sırasında oluşan yan etki ve komplikasyonlar bireylerin fiziksel aktivite düzeyi ve yaşam kalitesinin azalmasına, depresyona yatkınlığın artmasına neden olabilmektedir. Kemoterapi döneminde yapılan egzersizler bireylerin fiziksel, fonksiyonel ve psikolojik açıdan desteklenmesi sağlamaktadır. Çalışmamızın amacı, meme kanserli kadınlarda kalistenik egzersizlerin fiziksel aktivite ve depresyon düzeyine etkisinin araştırılması idi. Yöntem: Meme kanserli 15 modifiye radikal mastektomi geçiren ve kemoterapi alan kadın (Mastektomi+Kemoterapi Grubu, yaş ortalaması 41,07±4,66 yıl) ve 15 sadece kemoterapi alan kadın (Kemoterapi Grubu, yaş ortalaması 43,63±5,25 yıl) çalışmaya dahil edildi. Kemoterapi boyunca, her iki gruba 12 hafta, haftada iki gün, maksimal kap hızının % 60-80'inde kalistenik egzersiz verildi.
